Abstract: | A mild and efficient electrophilic substitution reaction of indoles with aldehydes and ketones has been carried out in water medium using a catalytic amount of MoO₂(acac)₂ to afford the corresponding bis(indolyl)methanes in excellent yields. Vibrindole A, a bacterial metabolite and biologically active 3,3'-diindolyl methane has been successfully synthesized in excellent yield using this methodology. |
