Abstract: Thiazolidin-4-ones 5a-e, 6a-e and thiazin-4-one 7a-e have been synthesised by cyclocondensation of thioglycolic acid, thiolactic acid and -mercaptopropionic acid, respectively with 6-(arylidene hydrazinocarbonyl)-2,5-bis-(4-methoxyphen- yl)-3H-pyridazin-3-one 4a-e which in turn have been prepared by the action of various substituted aromatic aldehydes on 6-(hydrazinocarbonyl)-2,5-bis-(4-methoxyphenyl)-3H-pyridazin-3-one 3. 6-Carbonyl-2,5-bis-(4-methoxyphenyl)-3H-pyrida- zin-3-one 1 is synthesised by reported method which on esterification followed by hydrazinolysis affords 3. The compounds synthesised have been confirmed by their elemental analysis and spectral data. Their antibacterial and antifungal activities have also been evaluated.
