Abstract: A simple and efficient method for the synthesis of substituted benzimidazole and benzothiazole using sulfonic acid functionalized cobalt ferrite magnetic nanocatalyst has been developed. The synthesis is achieved via condensation of o-phenylenediamine or 2-amino thiophenol and aldehydes in ethanol at room temperature. The catalyst can be easily recovered using an external magnet and reused for at least seven catalytic cycles without significant loss of catalytic activity.
