Abstract: The anionic micelles of sodium dodecyl sulphate bind the monoprotonated dipositive species, trans-[Co(en)2, (malH)(malH2)2+ and the binuclear species, trans-[Co(en)2(malH)(malFe)]3+ strongly for which the aquation rate constants in the micellar pseudo-phase at 60°C are (1.80±0.1) x 10-4 S-1 and (2.81 ±0.27) x 10-4 S-1 respectively. Evidence for further H+ -catalysed aquation of the species, trans-[Co(en)2(malH)(malH2)]2+ in the anionic micellar pseudo-phase is presented. The neutral surfactant, Triton X 100, has no effect on the acid catalysed aquation rate. Both SDS and CTAB micelles do not exert significant effect on its base hydrolysis rate.
