Abstract: The reactions between M(IV) chlorides (M = Ti, Zr and Hf) and alkyl pyruvate benzoylhydrazones [C6H5C(O)NHN = C(CH3)C(O)OR,R = Me(HL), R = Et (HL')] have been carried out in 1:1 and 1:2 molar ratios to obtain hexa- and octa-coordinated metal complexes of the types [MCl3L], [MCl2L2], [MCl3L’] and [MCl2L2]. The coordination occurs through two carbonyl oxygens and azomethine nitrogen. All the new complexes have been characterized on the basis of elemental analyses, conductivity measurements, UV, IR and 1H NMR spectral studies.
