Abstract: Schiff bases derived by the condensation of S-benzyldithiocarbazate with 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde, 2-hydroxy- acetophenone, 2-hydroxy-lnaphthaldehycle, 2,4-pentanedione and 1-phenyl-l,3-butanedione react with ethyl orthogermanate in 1:2 molar ratio (metal: ligand) to form complexes of the type Ge(L)2. These ligands act as dinegatively charged tridentate species. The complexes are coloured solids, non-electrolytes and monomeric in nature. Based on electronic, infrared and proton magnetic resonance data an octahedral structure has been established for the germanium complexes.
