Abstract: The second order rate constants and activation parameters for the reaction of various p-substituted phenacyl bromides with 2-substituted benzirnidazoles have been measured in 90% acetone-10% water (v/v) medium at different temperatures. The rate constants for the reaction of substitute phenacyl bromides with a given benzimidazole fit well into the Hammett equation while those for the reaction of 2-substituted benzimidazoles with a given phenacyl bromide do not do so. The ρ-values for various phenacyl bromides with each benzimidazole have been calculated and art found to be very close.
