|Abstract:||Eighteen new complexes of lanthanide perchlorates and nitrates with 4-(pyridine-3carboxalidene) aminoantipyrine (P3CAAP) having the general formulae [Ln(P3CAAP)4](ClO4), and [Ln(P3CAAP)2(NO3)3] (where Ln = La, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy or Y) have been synthesized and characterized based on IR, conductance, magnetic moment and molecular weight data and elemental analyses. In these complexes the ligand, P3CAAP acts as a neutral bidentate ligand coordinating through azomethine nitrogen and carbonyl oxygen. The perchlorate ion is not coordinated to the metal ion while the nitrate ion is coordinated to the metal ion in a unidentate fashion. Thus coordination numbers of 8 and 7 are suggested for the metal ions of the perchlorate and nitrate complexes, respectively.|
