Abstract: The oxidation of dimethyl (DMSO) and methyl phenyl (MPSON) sulphoxides by N-bromocaprolactam (NBC) follows zero order kinetics in [sulphoxide], but that of diphenyl sulphoxide (DPSO) is first order in [DPSO] HClO4 accelerates the rate of all the oxidation reactions. However, added caprolactam retards the oxidation of only DPSO.
