Abstract: Diorganotellurium(IV) bis-(β-diketonates) of the formula R2Te(acac)2 {R=CH3, C6H5, p-CH3OC6B4} and R2Te(dpm)2 (acacH = 2,4-pentanedione; dpmH = 2,2,6,6-tetramethylheptane-3,5-dione) have been prepared by the reaction of R2Te(OMe)2 with (acacH) and (dpmH) in anhydrous conditions. R2Te(acac)z reacts with halocarboxylic acids (R'COOH) (R'= CF3, CC13, CHCl2 or CH2Cl) to give mixed ligand complexes of the type R2Te(acac)(R'COO). A weak coordination of the β-diketone group with tellurium atom in the solid state is concluded. The geometry around the central tellurium atom is suggested on the basis of physicochemical studies.
