Abstract: An efficient and mild synthesis of three naturally occurring cinnamic ester derivatives (5, 6 and 7) isolated from methanol extract of Oxalis pes-caprae has been described, which show inhibitory effects on the germination and growth of Lactuca sativa. 3,4,5-Trimethoxybenzaldehyde (1) has been used as the starting material. Esterification reaction has been achieved via a novel approach using immobilized Brønsted dual acidic ionic liquid and microwaves.
