Abstract: Composite with aluminium 6061 as matrix using red mud reinforcement has been fabricated by stir casting method. Scanning electron microscopy has been used to visualize the uniform distribution of the particle in the matrix. The presence of reinforcement in the matrix has been confirmed by Energy dispersive spectroscopy. Tensile test has been conducted using ASTM 790-02 standard. The analysis of the results show that the tensile strength increases with increase in red mud content up to 16% after that a sharp decline has been observed. Also, with increase in size of reinforcing particles of red mud, the value of tensile strength decreases but increases again for 250 micron particle size. Tensile strength has also been found to be increased with increase in aging time of the composite up to 18 hrs but again for 24 hrs aging time tensile strength decreases. From ANOVA analysis of the work carried out, it has been found that the percentage of reinforcement has maximum effect on tensile strength followed by aging time and particle size.
