Abstract: -Proline as an efficient and eco-friendly catalyst has been employed for the synthesis of 4-(2-(substitutedphenyl)-diazenyl)-1-phenylpyrazolidine-3,5-dione from diethyl 2-(2-(substitutedphenyl)-hydrazono)malonate and phenyl hydrazine. This protocol exhibits advantages like high catalytic efficiency, shorter reaction time and easy isolation of products. The synthesized compounds have been structurally characterized on the basis of IR, 1H and 13C NMR, mass spectroscopy and elemental analyses. All of the newly isolated compounds have been tested for their antibacterial activities. The antibacterial screening using the agar well diffusion method reveals that the fluro derivative 3e is the most active one.
