Abstract: A novel series of 2-amino-imidazole derivatives have been synthesized by conventional method from various di carbonyl compounds with substituted N-phenyl amides in presence of ammonium acetate and glacial acetic acid under reflux conditions with good yields. All the synthesized compounds have been characterized by IR, 1H and 13C NMR, mass and elemental analysis in full accordance with their depicted structures. The synthesized products have been screened for antimicrobial activity and the results reveal that introduction of amine at 2nd position of imidazole moiety enhances the antibacterial as well as antifungal activity.
