Abstract: Reactions of M{MAl(OPri)4}2 and CIM{Al(OPri)4} [M = Zn(II) or Cd(II)] with methoxyethanol in different molar ratios in benzene yield derivatives of the types, [M{Al(OPri)4-n (OCH2CH2OMe)n}2 [M = Zn(II) or Cd(II), n = 1, 2, 3, 4] and CIM{Al(OPri)4-n (OCH2CH2OMe)n} [M= Zn(II) or Cd(II), n = 2, 4]. Soluble homometallic methoxyethoxides of zinc and cadmium, M(OCH2CH2OMe)2, have also been prepared by the reactions of MCl2 with NaOCH2CH2OMe in 1:2 molar ratio in a mixture of methoxyethanol and benzene. All these derivatives have been characterized by elemental analysis, infrared and NMR (lH, 13C and 27A1) spectroscopy as well as by molecular weight studies.
