Abstract: A new heteronuclear tin-cobalt cluster complex, [Bu8Sn4Co4(CO)6(DPPE)] (II), has been synthesized by thermal reaction of dibutylbis(tetracarbonylcobalt) tin(lV), BU2Sn[Co (CO)4 ]2 (I), with bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane (DPPE) in n-hexane. The complex (II) has a tetrahedral frame-work of four cobalt atoms with BU2Sn: bridging across the apices of the tetrahedron on opposite faces. A condensation-elimination process is tentatively suggested for the reaction.
