Abstract: Somatic metaphase chromosomes of  two marine fishes, Secutor insidiator and Leiognathus equulus of Leiognathidae, were obtained from the gill epithelial and kidney cells and their morphmetric analyses were done. S. insidiator showed 2n = 48 and NF = 48 with the chromosome formula, n  = 24t. Whereas, L. equulus showed 2n = 48 and NF = 52 with the chromosome formula, n = 2 st + 22 t.
