Abstract: The article deals with synthesis of novel 1,4-thiazepine 2a-f and 1,5-benzothiazepines 3a-f derivatives by condensation reaction of 1,3-diketones derivatives 1a-f with 2-aminoethanethiol/ 2-aminobenzenethiol in presence of pyridine in catalytic amount. The newly synthesized compounds viz. 1,4-thiazepine derivatives 2a-f and 1,5-benzothiazepine derivatives 3a-f have been characterized using IR, 1H and 13C NMR and MS. Thiazepine derivatives 2a-f and 3a-f have been screened for their antimicrobial activity. These compounds show significant activity against Bacillus subtillis and Escherichia coli bacterial strains.
