Abstract: Post liberalization policies of the Indian Government have given a real challenge to the Indian scientists to live with the paradigm of strict time schedules, improved quality and reduced costs. Scientists are now expected to reduce lead times of design, development and deliver the required product in conformance to the Users' requirements. Indian Government Knowledge based organizations have therefore implemented quality management systems and most of them have obtained formal ISO 9001 certification. However the impact of implementation of QMS on the organizational as well as individual performance has not been measured. A need is therefore felt to develop an instrument and identify the performance parameters impacted by the implementation of quality management system. In this research a Questionnaire for ISO Impact Analysis was specifically designed for KBOs and study of 34 units of ISO 9001 certified R&D organizations was taken with a focus on determining the impact of implementation of ISO 9001 quality management system on the performance. Responses of ISO 9001 certified units of Questionnaire dealing with various markers of Impact Analysis were subjected to principal component factor analysis with Varimax rotation and Eigen value as criteria.
