dc.description.abstract A study on the dietary intake of mercury through fish consumption in Alimgarh villagers revealed an average of 3.146 2.27 µg/kg body wt/week in this population. 40% of the population of Alimgarh exceeded the PTWI limit of 3.3 µg/kg body weight /week as proposed by JECFA (2003).  High consumption of carnivorous fish and high rate of fish consumption were the factors influencing high dietary intake of Hg in this population.
