dc.description.abstractThis study was to evaluate the effectiveness of yogic exercise on glycemic control and lipid profiles in type 2 diabetes. PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and the Cochrane library were searched to identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs) reported effects of yogic exercise on glycemic control and lipid profiles in type 2 diabetes published in English language between January 1966 and December 2013. Statistical analyses were carried out using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis 2 software. The effect sizes of yogic exercise on type 2 diabetes generally had a moderate to high level on fasting blood sugar, glycosylated hemoglobin, total cholesterol, triglycerides, high density lipoprotein, low density lipoprotein, and very low density lipoprotein levels with standardized mean difference effect sizes (95 % confidence interval) of -0.70 (-1.03 to -0.36), -0.57 ( -0.94 to -0.19), -0.86 (-1.43 to -0.29), -0.63 (-0.99 to -0.27), 0.62 ( 0.23 to 1.01), -0.78 (-1.16 to -0.39), and -0.52 (-0.73 to -0.31), respectively (p < 0.05). Our meta-analysis indicates that yoga exercise improves glycemic control and lipid profiles in type 2 diabetes. Further high-quality RCTs are needed to confirm and further comprehend the effects of standardized yoga programs in people with type 2 diabetes.en_US
