Title: Synthesis and characterisation of the chelates of AI, Ga and In with 1,2-propylenediaminetetraacetic acid

Abstract: Protonated chelates of AI, Ga and In with propylenediaminetetraacetic acid (POTA, H4Y) have been isolated and characterised by elemental analysis and by potentiometric, thermo gravimetric, infrared, and X-ray diffraction methods. These have the general formula HMY.2H2O. The AI and Ga chelates appear to be isomorphous. Infrared data indicate the existence of unionized COOH in all the chelates. The results indicate that POTA functions as a pentadentate and hexadentate ligand in HA1 Y.2H2O and KAl Y.2H2Orespectively.
