Abstract: Synthesis of a ligand bearing the donor set resembling that for the type 1 active sites of some of the blue proteins is described. This ligand forms a four coordinate complex with copper(II) perchlorate; the complex has been characterised on the basis of various physicochemical studies. To facilitate the characterisation, the oxygen analogue of the thiolate ligand has also been prepared which also forms a four-coordinate complex with copper perchlorate, like the thiolate ligand. Present study is the first example of a copper(II) complex having donors similar to those present at the blue copper active site in some proteins.
