Title: oxomolybdenum(V) complexes with the Schiff base derived from 2-hydrazinoethanol and salicylaldehyde/substituted salicylaldehyde

Abstract: New oxomolybdenum(V) complexes of the type MoOCIL (where LH2= schiffbase derived from 2-hydrazinoethanol and salicylaldehyde, 5-chlorosalicylaldehyde, 5-bromosalicylaldehyde, 5-nitrosalicylaldehyde,3-ethoxysalicylaldehyde or 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde) have been synthesized and characterized on the basis of elemental analysis, molar conductance, oxidimetric titration, infrared and electronic spectra and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The schiff bases behave as ONO donor dibasic tridentate ligands. The complexes exhibit room temperature magnetic moments in the range 0.55-0.70 B.M. indicating their involvement in strong antiferromagnetic interaction with S=0 ground state. The complexes are non-electrolytes in DMF. An alcoholic oxygen bridged dimetallic octahedral structure has been suggested for the complexes.
