Title: An extractive spectrophotometric method for the determination of vanadium as V(II)-8-hydroxyquinoline complex into acetylacetone-chloroforrn

Abstract: A simple and rapid extractive spectrophotometric method of determination of vanadium is developed by reduction of the metal ion With Zn/Hg in presence of 8-hydroxyquinoline under acidic conditions employing acetylacetone-chloroform as extractant. No interference is shown by W(VI), Cr(VI, III), U(VI), Mo(VI), Fe(II), Co(ll), Ni(II). Cu(II) and several other elements of interest. The applicability of the method is tested by analysis of a large number of different samples. The method is highly reproducible with a standard deviation of 0.0065 and Sandell's sensitivity 8.6956 X 10-2 g V/cm2. Stoichiometry of the complex is also studied.
