Abstract: A local mode model has been used for the calculation of the first overtone CH stretching spectra of pyridine and nitrobenzene; the theoretical spectra have been compared with the recorded spectra in the overtone regions. The observed spectra for pyridine and nitrobenzene show a striking difference which has been interpreted in terms of structural factors.
