Abstract: It has been found that the initial rate of persulphate decomposition in the persulphate concentration range of 0.40 x 10-2 to 3.00 x 10-2 moldm-3 and the monomer, methacrylonitrile (MAN), concentration range of 0.16 to 0.40 mol dm-3 may be given by the following expression,
-d(S2O/)/dt [MAN]1.38±0.05 X [S2](1.7±O.05 )
A reaction scheme has been suggested to explain the kinetic data.
