Title: Solvation of carboxylate ions in water + acetone mixtures: An ultrasonic study at 303.15 K

Abstract: The apparent molar isentropic compressibilities of oxalic, .malonic, succinic, glutaric and adipic acids have been determined in water and water +0.016, +0.033, +0.072, +0.117, and +0.171 mole fraction acetone mixtures from ultrasonic velocity measurements in varying ranges of concentration at 303.15 K. The solvation numbers of the acids have been determined in these solvents. The results are discussed in the light of solute-solvent interactions. The result suggests that the apparent molar isentropic compressibility and the solvation number change with increase in hydrophobic chain length (-CH2- groups) of homologous dicarboxylic acids.
