Abstract: An iron-sulphur cluster complex, Fe4(HSCH2CH2SH)2(CO)12 (I) has been synthesized by thermal reaction of 1,2-ethanedithiol, HSCH2CH2SH with Na2[Fe(CO)4] and Fe3(CO)12 separately. Complex I is reacted with NaOEt in CH2Cl2 and monitored by IR to observe the formation of cluster anion [(Fe4S4(CH2-CH2)2)]·-n (n= 1 to 4). The treatment of 1,2-ethanedithiol with Cp2TiCl2 and Na2[Fe(CO)4] at room temperature and refluxing condition gives Fe2(HSCH2CH2SH)(CO)8 (II) and Fe2(HSCH2CH2SH)(CO)6(III) respectively. The complexes have been characterized by elemental analysis, IR, PMR and mass spectral data.
