Abstract: Seven mixed-ligand hetero chromium(I) acetylacetonatonitrosyl complexes of the type [Cr(NO)‑ (acac)2(L)], where L=BZ, MBZ, HYMBZ, AMBZ, 2'-CHPBZ, 2'-TBZ, or 2'-HYPBZ have been isolated by the interaction of bis(acetylacetonato)monoaquanitrosylchromium( I), [Cr(NO)(acac)2(H2O] with benzimidazole (BZ), 2-methylbenzimidazole (MBZ), 2-hydroxymethylbenzimidazole (HYMBZ), 2-aminomethylbenzimidazole (AMBZ), 2-(2'-chlorophenyl)benzimidazole (2'-CHPBZ), 2-(2'-tolyl)benzimidazole (2'-TBZ) and 2-(2'-hydroxyphenyl)benzimidazole (2'-HYPBZ). The complexes have been characterized by elemental analyses, molar conductances, magnetic measurements, electron spin resonance and X-ray photoelectron spectral studies. Trans-octahedral structures have been suggested for the complexes. Chromium(I) has a low-spin {CrNO}5 electron configuration in these complexes.
