Abstract: Equilibrium and kinetic phase diagram for binary mixtures of durene-biphenyl giving an eutectic has been obtained. The solidification of this binary system has been investigated from spontaneous crystallization, linear velocity of crystallization and viscosity determination. Phase diagram data have been analysed to obtain GE, SE, VE, ηE and Grunberg-Nissan parameter (d) for various compositions and temperatures. Viscosity, thermodynamic data and computed phase diagram indicate that durene-biphenyl eutectic system is non-ideal. The decrease in velocity of directional growth as one component is added to the other explains that diffusion process is the dominant factor in crystal growth of mixtures.
