Abstract: Several new hepta-coordinate dimeric complexes of niobium- (III) chloride with ditertiary phosphines of the type (C6H5)2-P-(CH2)n-P-(C6H5)2 (where n = 1 to 6) and (C6H5)2-P-(CH = CH)-P-(C6H5)2 have been prepared by using magnesium turnings and aluminium powder as reducing agents. These complexes are characterised by elemental analysis, magnetic moment data, IR, 1H, 31P and 13C NMR spectral studies. The complexes formed are of the type Nb2Cl62, where represents the corresponding phosphine.
