Title: Preparation and study of a nickel(II) ion selective electrode

Abstract: A new polymer matrix based membrane electrode respondin g to nickel(II) ions has been constructed by incorporating a nickel(II) complex of isonitros propiophenone (HINPP) in styrene butyl methacryl ate (SBM)co-polymer. The electrode exhibits a linear non -Nerstian response over a wide concentration range (10-2 M -10-8 M) of Ni(II). The pH in the range 2-9 does not effect the electrode performance. The response time varie s from 60 to 120 sec. Selectivity coefficients determine d for several mono-, di- and trivalent cations show no interference. The electrode has been used for the determina tion of nickel in chrome-steel, cupro-niokel alloy an hydrogenated vegetable oil.
