Abstract: The reactions of a series of schiff base ligands, prepared by the condensation of o-aminothiophenol with heterocyclic aldehydes like furfuraldehyde, thiophene2-aldehyd, pyJidine-2-aldehyde and indole-3-carbaldehyd have been studied with Sb(III) and Bi(III) chlorides. The complexes formed are of the type SbCI3 and BiCl3.L (where L= RCHNHC6H4S-, R=C4H3O-, C4H3S-, C5H4N-, C9H7N-). These complexes have been characterized on the basis of eIemental analyses, molecular weight determinations, IR, NMR (1H and 13C) and X-ray diffraction data.
