Abstract: Recoil 128 I species originating from the (n, ) activation of pure liquid methyl iodide, ethyl iodide and iodobenzene and in the presence of toluene hav e been collecte:d on Ag/AgI electrodes, kept at 17 V/ cm (D.C. field ). Both anionic and cationic species labelled with 128I are produced and collected on charge plates. A higher enrichment on anode than that on cat hade is obtained throughout the concentration range studied. Results show that the addition of varying amounts of toluene to the target prior to thermal neutron activation plays an important role in the final chemical stabilisation of hot iodine species through its moderating effect and reactivity.
