Abstract: Reactions of hafnocene dichloride with alkyl pyruvate aroylhydrazones (viz., methyl pyruvate benzoylhydrazone (MPBHyH), ethyl pyruvate benzoylhydrazone (EPBHyH), methyl pyruvate nicotoylhydrazone (MPNHyH), ethyl pyruvate nicotoylhydrazone (EPNHyH), methyl pyruvate isonicotoylhydrazone (MPINHyH) and ethyl pyruvate isonicotoylhydrazone (EPINHyH) yield complexes of the type Cp2Hf(L)nCl2-n (where n = 1 or 2 and L = alkyl pyruvate aroylhydra zone anion). The complexes have been characterized on the basis of elemental analyses, IR, PMR and electronic spectra. The magnetic susceptibility data indicate the complexes to be diamagnetic.
