Abstract: The kinetics of oxidation of substituted styryl phenyl ketones and of substituted Styrylmethyl ketones by pyridinium chlorochromate (PCC) have been studied in 90% acetic acid-10% water (v/v) containing perhloric acid and NaCIO4, at 30°, 40°, 50° and 60°e. The two reactions are first order each in ketones and PCe. The rate constants are well correlated with σ+ constants. The effects of varying [HClO4] and the percentage of acetic acid on the reaction rate have also been studied. A suitable mechanism has been proposed .
