Abstract: Catalytic activity of some five coordinate cobalt(II) complexes of the general formula, [CoL(BPBI)2X2] (where L=schiff base derived from crosslinked polystyrene bound benzaldehyde and 2-aminobenzimidazole, BPBI= 1-benzyl-2-phenylbenzimidazole and X= Cl, Br or NCS) towards decomposition of hydrogen peroxide has been studied in detail. The activity is much influenced by the anion, X and was found to decrease in the order: chloro > bromo- >thiocyanate. the peroxo complex formed was found to be catalytically active species. A mechanism for the decomposition of H2O2 has also been proposed.
