Title: Spectrophotometric determination of microquantities of silver(l) using dithizone in the presence of cetyl trimethylammonium bromide

Abstract: The spectrophotometric determination of silver(I) as its dithizonate has been carried out in the micellar medium, cetyl trimethylammonium bromide (CTAB). Both ligand and the complex were soluble in water in the presence of the surfactant. The molar absorptivity of the complex at λmax 565 nm was found to be 5.5 x 104 I mol-1 cm-1, with stoichiometry of 1:1. Beer's law is obeyed up to 1.0 ppm. The method has been used for the estimation of silver in pharmaceutical ointment and in the waste water of photographic film developing laboratory.
