Abstract: Holmium(III) chelates of isomeric juglones, namely, lawsone and juglone, phthiocol and plumbagin as well as 3-chlorolawsone and 3-chlorojuglone have been synthesised and characterised by physicochemical methods. The analytical and thermogravimetric data indicate that the chelates have the composition [ML3(H2O)2].nH2O where n=0 to 2. Lawsone derivatives form five-membered chelate ring while juglone derivatives form six-membered chelate ring with Ho(III).
