Abstract: A few mixed ligand complexes of Pt(IV) and Au(III) containing different amino acids and 8-hydroxyquinoline have been synthesised and characterized by elemental analyses, conductivity and magnetic measurements, infrared, electronic and mass specral studies. The complexes have the compositions [PtL(Q)2]Cl and [AuLQ]Cl (where L = anions of amino acids, e.g., glycine, alanine, phenylalanine and leucine, Q = anion of 8-hydroxyquinoline). Conductivity measurements indicate that the complexes are 1:1 electrolytes in DMF. The magnetic and spectral data are consistent with octahedral geometry of platinum(IV) complexes and square planar geometry of gold(lll) complexes.
