Abstract: The ground and excited singlet state dissociation constants of conjugate acids of 4´ -substituted 2-styrylquinolines have been determined spectrophotometrically in 50% (v/v) acetonitrile-water mixture at. 30°C. The former have been derived from the absorption spectra and the latter from absorption and fluorescence spectral data. The measured dissociation constants are correlated with substituent constants. A good correlation is obtained for the ground state dissociation constants with the Hammett σ constants and for the excited state dissociation constants with exalted σ constants.
