Title: Synthesis and spectral analysis of tin tetracarboxylates and phosphinates

Abstract: The reaction of tetraphenyltin with carboxylic acids leads to tin tetracarboxylates in nearly quantitative yields. These compounds have been characterized by elemental analysis, IR, 1H, 13C and 119Sn NMR spectra. By this route tin(IV)-tetrakis(dicyclohexylphosphinate) and bis(t-butylphosphonate) could also be synthesized. The 119Sn NMR spectra in solution suggest a coordination number of eight around tin for the carboxylates, which is consistent with the solid state structure of tin tetraacetate.
