Title: Enhanced phenol hydrogenation activity on promoted palladium alumina catalysts for synthesis of cyclohexanone

Abstract: A series of alkali and alkaline earth promoted Pd/Al2O3 catalysts has been synthesised by impregnation method, characterised by XRD and CO chemisorption techniques and studied for the vapour phase phenol hydrogenation to cyclohexanone. The promoted catalysts show the best catalytic activity and higher resistance for coke formation. The existence of a relationship between hydrogenation activity and the ionic size of the promoter ions is a significant observation.
