Title: Synthesis, characterisation and aniline methylation activity of VAPO-5 and VAPO-11

Abstract: Vanadium incorporated aluminophosphate molecular sieves (VAPO-5 and VAPO-11) have been synthesised using triethylamine and dipropylamine as templates. The as-synthesised and calcined samples have been characterised by XRD and their unit cell parameters are compared. The catalysts have been further characterised by FT-IR, DRS, ESR and TGA. Acidity of the catalysts has been determined by temperature programmed desorption (TPD) using pyridine and elemental analysis is done by ICP. Aniline methylation has been carried out in the vapour phase at WHSV 0.8 h-1. The effect of temperature and methanol to aniline ratio are also discussed. Selective formation of N-methylaniline and N,N-dimethylaniline is achieved over VAPO-5 and VAPO-11.
