Abstract: Diorganotin(IV) and diorganosilicon(IV) derivatives of the types R2MCI(LI), R2MCI(L2), R2M(L1)2.and R2M(L2)2 (where, R = phenyl or methyl, M =Sn or Si and L1/L2=anions of the ligands) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, IR, 1H, 13C, 29Si and 119Sn NMR spectroscopy. These data support the binding of oxygen to tin(IV) and silicon(IV) in R2MCI(LI) and R2MCI(L2) complexes with a trigonal bipyramidal geometry. However, R2M(LI)2 and R2M(L2)2 complexes possess an octahedral geometry. The results of antimicrobial effects of some representative complexes on different species of pathogenic fungi and bacteria have also been recorded and discussed.
