Abstract: Distribution and seasonal fluctuations of phytoplankton in relation to temperature, salinity, phosphate and nitrate were studied. The major groups of phytoplankters were Cyanophyceae (42.9%), Chlorophyceae (30.66%) and Bacillariophyceae (25.56%). In general, 2 peaks were discernible, one in August (primary) and the other in June (secondary). Incidence and relative abundance varied in different parts of the lake. At the mouth the peak was in June with a secondary maximum in February while in the interior the primary peak was in August.
