Abstract: Facile and efficient electrophilic substitution reactions of indoles with various carbonyl compounds are carried out using alum [KAl(SO4)2.12H2O], an in-expensive and reusable catalyst, to afford vibrindole and other bis(indolyl)methanes in excellent yields.
