dc.description.abstractA phycocolloid extracted from H. venusta, collected from the west coast of India, was characterized as lambda carrageenan having 43% yield on dry weight basis. The extract showed positive optical rotation and was soluble in 3 MKCl, cold and hot water and hot milk. The extract tested positive with methylene blue and the infrared spectrum was very similar to the known spectrum of lambda carrageenan.en_US
