Abstract: The observed diurnal phase variations of NPG 18.6 kHz vlf transmission as received at Nainital have been found to have a 95% correlation with those calculated from the mode theory of vlf propagation. The diurnal change in the height of reflection has been determined to be 14.1 km, assuming a day-time reflection height of 80 km. The effect of seasonal variation of vlf phase on the frequency comparison of a quartz oscillator against NPG signals has been discussed for Nainital.
